Vitor Belfort out of UFC 112 with shoulder Injury

Vitor will not face Silva at UFC 112

And, it happens again. The UFC Middleweight Title bout between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort, that has already been pushed back from two previous events, is now no longer going to take place at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi, as Belfort has now come up with an injury in training.

The breaking news comes from a Tweet by Yahoo! Sports writer Kevin Iole, who stated he confirmed Belfort’s injury with UFC President Dana White.

Silva had finally gotten healthy after elbow surgery, which had pushed back this matchup from a possible UFC 108 and UFC 109 headlining spot. With Belfort now out and Silva uninjured, the speculation will move to Chael Sonnen possibly getting his shot earlier. The hang up to that happening is the fact that he is on medical suspension until next month and would only have a month to prepare for his first Title fight.

UFC 112 was set to feature this Title bout along with a UFC Lightweight Title bout between B.J. Penn and Frankie Edgar. Now, the UFC’s first trip to the United Arab Emirates may be left with just one until further notice.

Analysis: This is a highly unfortunate development. After getting past UFC 108 and UFC 109 it was time to look forward to a number of great MMA fights, including every UFC Title on the line by this Summer. While Sonnen would be a deserving replacement after his victory over Nate Marquardt, this fight with Silva and Belfort was looking to be a very exciting fight, with many giving Belfort’s hands a good shot at a possible upset over “The Spider.” If they don’t put Sonnen into this slot and have to push Silva back to another card, it will be an unfortunate blow to what is looking to be an awesome fight card in Abu Dhabi.

Al-turk needs this win to stay in the UFC

Al Turk is set to face “The Ultimate Fighter 10” contestant John Madsen (3-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC 112, and sources close to the fighters told ( that bout agreements have been signed. The match-up was first reported by

UFC 112 takes place April 10 at Concert Arena at the Ferrari World theme park on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, and it marks the promotion’s first trip to the Middle East and a component of a new deal with U.A.E.-based event company Flash Entertainment.

Two title fights headline the card; middleweight champion Anderson Silva faces former champ Vitor Belfort, and lightweight title-holder B.J. Penn squares off with contender Frankie Edgar.

Al Turk, 36, has not fared well in two previous octagon appearances. After he gave up his heavyweight belt in the now-defunct Cage Rage promotion, Al Turk quickly lost his debut at UFC 92 when Cheick Kongo stopped him with strikes in the first round.

In his most recent appearance, Al Turk became another talking point in the case for instant replay when his opponent Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic temporarily blinded him with an eye poke and finished the fight with strikes at UFC 99 this past June.

Al Turk, who trains with London Shootfighters, is fighting for his UFC future with the April bout.

Madsen, 29, is best known for his stint on the most recent season of the UFC’s reality show, in which he fought on Rashad Evans’ team as a newcomer to the sport. Madsen made it past the show’s preliminary round by pounding out a decision against Abe Wagner but fell quickly to eventual finalist Brendan Schaub in the quarterfinals.

Madsen, who trains alongside Matt Hughes and Robbie Lawler at the H.I.T. Squad, redeemed his TV loss when he defeated fellow castmate Justin Wren at the show’s live finale this past December.

Madsen vs. Al Turk is expected to take place on the UFC 112 preliminary card.
